The end of the calendar year is a time for reflection and planning. For many, it is also an opportunity to make a tax-deductible contribution to a favorite nonprofit organization.

This year has been SO hard for many people. Social Change Consulting has been fortunate to work with several great nonprofit organizations over the last year. Below is a handful of organizations that we have worked with and several that we support individually.

Adolescent Health Working Group

Adolescent Health Working Group (AHWG) improves health equity so that all youth ages 11 to 24 in California and beyond have unimpeded access to comprehensive, youth-centered, and culturally-based healthcare. AHWG brings together a coalition of youth-serving providers who are leaders in their field and young people and caregivers with lived-experiences to create innovative resources, training opportunities, peer-to-peer networks, and leadership roles related to harm reduction and policy improvements in the areas of sexual health, mental health, and substance use.

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is the largest post-secondary institution in Nevada, with a majority-minority student body and many students who are the first in their family to graduate from high school and enter college. The CSN Foundation’s mission is to graduate CSN students debt-free through philanthropy. Their work was increasingly important this year as they launched an emergency fund to provide CSN students with short-term, emergency financial needs to stay in school.

Other Organizations That the SCC Team Supports

Adam – The Hawai`i People’s Fund is a small but mighty entity. In their own words, “No other organization specifically addresses the needs of grassroots progressive movement building in Hawaiʻi.” I know that when making a donation to the HPF, that the grantmaking committee is taking all effort to ensure that money is spent wisely, but more importantly, to advance a just cause for those often overlooked and historically disenfranchised in Hawai`i. If you’ve ever vacationed in Hawai`i, I challenge you to make a small contribution to the HPF to help ensure that Hawai`i remains a welcoming place for those who were born and continue to live there. Annemarie – The Trevor Project was founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25. I’m so glad to know there are invaluable resources such as The Trevor Project for our young people. I first learned about The Trevor Project a few years ago from a friend in California; her teenager had called The Trevor Project in a moment of crisis, and their life was saved. My niece and her friend in rural Montana have received support from The Trevor Project. Support when you need it, in a way that speaks to you, can make a crucial difference. Justin – Fair Fight is an organization working in Georgia and across the United States to encourage voter participation in elections and educate voters about elections and their voting rights. Efforts to discourage and disenfranchise voters — in voter registration, ballot access, or counting of votes — have a catastrophic effect on democracy in the United States. We need more community organizing and I trust Fair Fight (and Stacey Abrams) to lead this effort. Visit their website :: Click here to donate.

Nick – GlobalGiving is a nonprofit that supports other nonprofits by connecting them to donors and companies. Since 2002, we’ve helped trusted, community-led organizations from all over the world access the tools, training, and support they need to make our world a better place.  Vetting is a tough problem to tackle. These days it can be hard to know your dollars, when donated, are going to the right place and being put to the best use. Global Giving does one of the better jobs I’ve seen and I love how easy it is to find causes to advance. Visit their website :: Click here to donate

Pam – Campaign Zero supports the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns, and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide. As someone working in my own city to reimagine public safety, their resources are invaluable. Visit their website :: Click here to donate
